Why do women choose breast augmentation? I think it's interesting that breast augmentation has come out of the shadows after a few decades of a sort of seedy past. By that I mean, the public did not use to accept it. People often made fun ofbreast implants. There are still pockets of this, but by and large breast augmentation is practically dinner conversation today. So how does this translate into reasons for breast augmentation?



Everyone wants choices, and if this is a choice to enhance ourselves, why not? Having personal choices means that we can take advantage of the surgical advances and improve ourselves in the way we want to. As women have chosen breast augmentation for an aesthetic purpose, the choice is now generally accepted. Why shouldn't a woman have the right to choose breast augmentation if she wants to?



There has been a great deal written about how breast augmentation can improve a woman's self-esteem. I've seen it written by patients and doctors alike. I have spent extensive time studying this by reading dozens of articles on the subject and I think this is true, but with a major proviso that you really need to know about. Breast augmentation in and of itself does not improve a woman's self-esteem. Just because you have bigger breasts is not going to cure a poor self-image, like it or not. The part of this that is based in truth is that if a woman already has a high self-esteem, breast implants can have the effect of improving an already solid self-esteem. It seems the precise opposite might be true, in fact, for women with an already low self-esteem.



With a poor self-esteem already, a woman might find herself dissapointed by breast augmentation. A woman might have hoped for something to happen to her personally that in fact never occurs. There are some studies out that actually link breast augmentation to suicide in these cases. Be sure to pay attention to this if you suffer from low self-esteem. You simply cannot look for something external to improve a poor self-image. A low self-esteem is better dealt with through a counselor than with a plastic surgeon!
